Here's a recipe for Beef Suqaar, a delicious Somali dish, with the Xawaash spice blend:
Ingredients:
- 500 grams beef, thinly sliced
- 1 onion, finely chopped
- 2 garlic cloves, minced
- 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
- 2 tablespoons Xawaash spice blend (recipe below)
- 1 teaspoon salt, or to taste
- 1 teaspoon black pepper
- Fresh cilantro or parsley for garnish (optional)
Xawaash Spice Blend:
- 2 tablespoons ground cumin
- 2 tablespoons ground coriander
- 2 tablespoons ground paprika
- 1 tablespoon ground turmeric
- 1 tablespoon ground cardamom
- 1 tablespoon ground black pepper
- 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
- 1 teaspoon ground cloves
- 1 teaspoon ground nutmeg
Instructions:
- In a bowl, combine all the ingredients for the Xawaash spice blend. Mix well and set aside.
- Heat the vegetable oil in a large frying pan over medium heat.
- Add the chopped onion and minced garlic to the pan. Sauté until the onion becomes translucent and lightly browned.
- Add the thinly sliced beef to the pan and cook until it's browned and cooked through.
- Sprinkle the Xawaash spice blend, salt, and black pepper over the beef. Stir well to coat the meat evenly with the spices.
